MEET THE CAST: Janee Latrice Abbot

Janee Latrice Abbott

Character: Tiny
Production: Miss Minnie Mae's Going Home Party
Short Bio: Abbott began training  in dance at age 8 and trained under Gwendolyn Bye (Gwendolyn Bye Dance Center), Joan Myers Brown (Philadelphia School of Dance Arts), and LaDeva Davis at The Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts  (dance major from 2000-2004). During her years at C.A.P.A. her love for theater was cultivated. In 2004, she founded her own dance company  which toured the city for two years. Abbott  has performed in theaters throughout the Philadelphia area.  In 2001 she was featured as a lead vocal soloist in The Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade at age 14!  She is thrilled at the opportunity to reunite with her very first love; the stage! At the very foundation of all that she does is her resolute faith in God, as she is humbled and grateful at any opportunity she is presented with. She presently direct the theater arts ministry at her “second home” Catalyst for Change Church (Philadelphia, PA). She lives by, and can often be heard declaring, “Without God, I’m nothing; but with God I can do ALL things!”

Short Bio: DeShields is a veteran stage, film and TV actor with several dozen credits including  “Wonder of the World”; “To Be Young Gifted & Black” “Blues for an Alabama Sky”; “A Soldier’s Play”; “Night Watch”; “Raisin in the Sun” “The Exonerated”;  "Jeffrey”; “VI Degrees” and “VII Deadly Sins” all on stage.

Character: Henrietta Johnson (Duke)

Short Bio: Actress/playwright/theatre collaborator absolutely loves and adores theatre! She has a passionate desire to create and pursue a lifetime of bold original art work. Recent Theater credits: God's Trombones: ‘The Creation’ and ‘The Crucifixion’; My Body’s Nightmare: A Journey through Black Anatomy; The Pocketbook Monologues (Lala); The Vagina Monologues; HAIR; Seven Guitars (Vera Dotson). Matthews is very excited and honored to be a part of the cast in Miss Minnie Mae’s Goin Home Party. She thanks her family/friends/and colleagues for their support.

Hilary Asare

Character: Betty Anne Reddick (Reds)

Short Bio: Hilary is delighted to make her Expressions Performing Arts Company debut in this production. Hilary has a BA in Drama from Tufts University and studied at the British American Drama Academy in London. Previous credits include Titus Andronicus (Full Contact Theatre), All's Well That Ends Well (Commonwealth Shakespeare Company), Assassins (Tufts University), for colored girls who considered suicide when the rainbow is enuf, The Garden Party, The Madwoman of Chaillot, and Big Love.

MEET THE CAST: Alicia Agnew

Alicia Agnew

Character: Flossie Dillard
Production: Miss Minnie Mae's Going Home Party
Short Bio: Agnew was born in Greenville, South Carolina where she made her acting debut at the age of 11 playing Raynelle in August Wilsons' Fences. She attended the Pennsylvania State University earning a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration, but was later bit by the acting bug again. In 2011 and 2012, she was both a contributing writer and performer in Soliloquy: Her Story, a nonprofit production about Women's Health.

TS Hawkins

Character: Miss Minnie Mae
Production: Miss Minnie Mae's Going Home Party
Short Bio: Hawkins is an actor, internationally recognized author, performance poet, wedding officiant & producer/host for her radio show. Recent theater credits: Otis Epiphany (Ms. Conwell), For Colored Girls (Lady in Purple), Crowning The May Queen (Aferworki). Her books have been well received in print and radio media since 2007. Soon to release her first book for teens/children titled Black Suga: diary of a troublesome teenager and Poetry Schmo-etry. Published in Certain Circuits Magazine, Verseadelphia and Third Sunday Blog Carnival, Hawkins released her sophomore poetry album Running Still Water in April 2012. She will be featured again on the Authors Under 30 Book Tour traveling nationally to share her 7th publication The Hotel Haikus along with other talented performers & writers!
